Asseco Arka Gdynia left for Toruń for an away match of Energa Basket Liga to face off against Polski Cukier. The hosts are known as the toughs of PLK and are also well known for being difficult to beat at their own court. On the Epiphany, Arka has learned that the hard way, lossing at Arena Toruń (73:96).

From the very first minutes, the match was not going according to plan. The score was opened by the first Gdynia shot Josh Bostic (20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals, 1 block), supported by James Florence (16 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) and in the painted zone by Adam Łapeta (8 points, 9 rebounds). The game seemed even, with a slight advantage of Toruń. 15 seconds before the end of the first quarter, that advantage reached 10 points and only a good three pointer from Krzysztof Szubarga (11 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist) lowered it slightly, with an ultimate score of (28:21).

The next quarter saw a regrouping of Asseco and much better offense. Szubarga was very active, with a nice exchange of Robert Upshaw (11 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist) for Łapeta. A nice finish by Bostic and Florence allowed the guests to win that part of the game (21:17) and exit the court with a hope for victory, with a slight disadvantage in the overal score (42:45).

The second half quickly layed wastes to those hopes. Toruń showed that they learned, as they tightened their defenses and destroyed the attacking guests. Arka did some minimal errors, easy losses and drastically lost their accuracy. Bostic kept on scoring, some points were gathered by the under-the-basket players, but that was not enough. Last quarter saw Florence joining Bostic, as well as Marcel Ponitka (2 points, 1 assists) who played for only 11 minutes, but that did not change the final result and Asseco Arka Gdynia lost to Polski Cukier Toruń (73:96)..

A strong defense by the "Gingerbreadman" meant losses for Arka (14), coupled with a weak accuracy from behind the bend (24.1%), coupled with Toruń's phenomenal three point shot accuracy (57.7%) and great teamwork (32 assists) were the keys to today's victory. It is becoming quite crowded at the top of the table: Polski Cukier, Anwil and Arka have the same amount of points, and all occupy places 2-4, while the leader chair is held by Stelmet Enea BC Zielona Góra.

A week of relax will be followed up by a match against PLK Spójnie Stargard on the 14th of January at Gdynia Arena.
