Three days before the start of the League Gdynia played a match at their own court in the Supercup. Asseco Prokom faced off against Trefl Sopot. It was not a lucky matchup for Gdynia in the previous years. In the eleven previous finals only two were won. This time it was not meant to be once again, with a 69:74 loss.
Those years were definitely an end of an era. It was the last time Gdynia played in the Euroleague. At that time, they were not able to leave the group phase, ending the match with a 2-9 balance, as it often was in the Euroleague. Coach Kestius Kemezura's team ended up in the B Group, together with Maccabi Electra Tel Awiw, Montepaschi Siena, Albo Berlin, Unicaja Malaga and Elan Chalon-Sur-Soane.
During the season, after the new year, the problem of finding ways to save money struck. Despite the personal losses, Gdynia made it to the playoffs, where they faced of against Anwil Włocławek. To everyone's surprise, Asseco Prokom won only a single match at that phase.
The 2012/13 seasons saw the end of a time of continuous wins of Gdynia since the beginning of the century. From the 2000/01 season, when for the very first time the team made to the playoffs, the club always manage to reach the podium, with a minimum of reaching half-finals. The medal series (1 bronze, 2 silvers, 9 golds in a row) which lasted for 12 seasons was over. New challenges awaited.
