The final win…
The Club coffers, after a troubling 2010/2011 season, were spent. New funds did arrive in Gdynia, which allowed the purchase of the US playmaker Jerel Blassingame. Coach Tomas Pacesas also pushed through for Donatas Motiejunas to join Gdynia after his performance in the NBA.
Gdynia's team was able to focus on the VYB matches, where they did better than last year. The changed framework, which allowed four out of eigth teams in both groups to join the Final Four, was also a change for Asseco Prokom. Unfortunately, Gdynia won only half of their 16 matches, five at their own court, three away. They fell only one victory short.
In the Euroleague, Pacasesa's team played the worst in their history. Eighth matches, eighth losses. They managed to pull a victory with the penultimate match at Gdynia against Olimpija Lublana. Final score - 1:9.
Tomas Pacasesa's resignation came as a shock - right before the start of the second phase of the regular season. Coach managed to claim victory titles since 2008. The undefeated in Poland Lithuanian took on the role of an executive director in the VTB United League. The steering wheel was taken by his assistant, Andrzej Adamek - former player of Prokom Trefl.
The performance on the European arena, falling out from the Polish Cup, losing the Supercup and a sudden change in coaches made reasons to believe that the Tauron Basket Liga would see Gdynia defeated. Gdynia's team did manage to pull through, however, with an impressive 8-2 balance.
AZS Koszalin (3-2) did prove unexpectedly challenging in the quarterfinals. It was much easier in the half-finals against Zastal Zielona Góra (3-0). Thus, we arrived at the finale for the 11th time in a row. Asseco Prokom arrived at the Tricity derby with an important advantage - 9:0 to their name! After the two first matches that changed to 11-0. That was when Trefl proved victorious for the first time of fighting Asseco. Sopot pushed for a seventh match. Jerrel Blassingame, together with Donatas Motiejunas, allowed the team to win the championship for the 9th team in a row.
