SEASON 2001/2002

A symbolic half-final

Even before the start of the league play, Prokom Trefl - the triumphant team of the Polish Cup - fought off Śląsk Wrocław in the Polish Supercup. The match was played at Lower Silesia, boxing in Sopot. And yet, whaddya know! Sopot won 101:74, which build up an expectation for the upcoming season. Trójmiasto was becoming a factory of talent.

Prokom was going forward like a storm, both through the PLK as well as the Koracz Cup. The last one ended at the quarter finals stage, where the Russian Lokomotiw Mineralne Wody proved to be the wall. One of the leaders of that particular team was Goran Jagodnik.

Back home, things were going great, with a symbolic victory in the half-finals of the playoffs. Włocławek was in the lead with 17 points (2-1 against Anwil at that point). The Champion's Hall was brimming with excitement for the hosts win. But it was not meant to be. Sopot, particularly so in the form of Tomasz Janowski (working as a Polsat Sport expert currently), won 83:79. The fifth match became a formality.

Unfortunately, the finale was not worthy of remembering. Only a single win against Śląsk Wrocław resulted in silver. A first in club's history.
