This Wednesday, 30th of October at 20:00, Asseco Arka Gdynia will take on leaders of the 7DAYS EuroCup D group Galatasaray Doga Sigorta Istanbul at Gdynia Arena. Our Turkish guests enjoy the same win-loss balance as the yellow-and-blues, with a slight advantage in the small points making them higher in the table.
Galatasaray is led by coach Ertugrula Erdogan and has won 3 out of 4 matches, defeating (70:64) Dolomiti Energia Trento, (92:79) EWE Baskets Oldenburg and (84:83) Buducnost Voli Podgorica. They have also yielded to Unicaja Malaga (91:80).
Asseco Arka Gdynia occupies the third place, although all of the top three teams have the same balance of three wins to one loss. Gdynia defeated EWE Baskets Oldenburg (79:74), Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (62:59) and Dolomiti Energia Trento (91:80). The only loss came at the hand of Unicaja Malaga (66:59).
Galatasaray is a hard basketball team with a rich tradition of participating in the European matches. The core of the Turkish attack are the two US players: the tall (198 cm) playmaker Aaron Harrison (17.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists) and the dynamic center Zach Auguste (14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.5 blocks). The long distance throws are delivered by of so called stretch four: Greg Whittington (13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.5 steals) and Goksenin Koksal (5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists), along with penetrations of the oponnents basket delivered by Tai Webster (8.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists) and Ben Moore (8.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists). Lazeric Jones (7.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists), US born, serves as an exchange for Harrison.
Just like in Asseco, the Istambul team plays dynamically, plays rapidly and offensively (82.25 points) with a lot of passes (19.25 assists). Gdynia is slightly behind in the attack, but they do make up for it in rebounds (40.75) and blocks (1.75).
