Christmas is upon us, but Energa Basket Liga does not rest. This Thursday, 26th of December at 17:30, Asseco Arka Gdynia is off to Włocławek to fight against the Polish Champion - Anwil.
Both teams have fought this season in the Country as well as in Europe. Both Anwil and Arka enjoy the same balance of 9 wins against 4 losses and are 4th and 5th in the table, respectively.
The "Rottweillers" are led by the Croatian Igor Milicic, and have recently lost 71:96 against Start Lublin, only to win 110:82 against King Szczecin and 98:96 against BM Slam Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski.
At the same time, the yellow-and-blues, led by coach Przemysław Frasunkiewicz, also defeated "The Kings" 83:82, as well as MKS Dąbrowa Górnicz 95:68 and HydroTruck Radom 85:68.
Anwil is a known quality in the Polish basketball. Włocławek are high quality players with a deep rotation. The only trouble lays in their division of attention between the PLK and Champion's League, whereas Gdynia has finished its adventure with the 7DAYS EuroCup and can focus on the EBL.
As with most Polish teams, the offensive core is comprised of foreign players. The leader of the scoring is defender Ricky Ledo (16.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 2.1 steals), along with center Shawn Jones (12.2 points, 6.0 rebounds) and the well known Chase Simon (12.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals) or playmaker Tony Wroten (11.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.7 steals). The first five is completed with the Latvian Rolands Freimanis (11.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals), and the only Polish player is the forward Michał Sokołowski (9.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals).
After the initial troubles, Anwil is doing very well in the offense. The hosts garner an average of 10 points more than Asseco (96.1 points vs 87.2) and do so with high accuracy, a good coverage of the court and more steals (9.08).
Let's hope for the best, cheer Asseco Arka Gdynia and watch Polsat Sport on the 26th of December at 17:30. We are Asseco!
