The holiday season and New Year's celebrations are behind us and the basketball court will see Asseco Arka Gdynia players once again this Monday, 6th of January at 17:00, in a match against Polpharma Starogard Gdański.

The beginning of the current season was very poor for the Kociewian Devils. Starogard, out of all their 14 matches, they have won only 3 times and are last in the current 16 PLK teams. In the meantime, the coaching staff has been changed, Marcin Lichtański and Marcin Kloziński have been replaced by Marek Łukomski and Rafał Frank. Some players left, Kamau Stokes among them, and a lot of injuries are plaguing the team, Michał Kołodziej among them - we wish all of them a swift recovery.

Despite this unfortunate turn of events, Polpharma is still in the fight and with the aid of their new coach, they managed to beat MKS Dąbrowa Górnicza (84:74) and King Szczecin (89:71) and loosing to HydroTruck Radom (78:86).

Coach Przemysław Frasunkiewicz and his team are in a much better position. The yellow-and-blues note a balance of 9 wins to 5 losses and are currently 6th in the table. Just like Polpharma, Arka managed to beat MKS (95:68) and King (83:82), while loosing to Polish Champion Anwil Włocławek (65:83).

As mentioned before, Starogard has undergone a lot of changes and their current offense leaders are the US center Brett Prahl (11.4 points, 6.1 rebounds), Polish defender Daniel Gołębiowski (10.3 point, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists) and another American, Jonathan Williams (16.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals). Responsible for organizing the game is the Lithuanian playmaker Martynas Paliukenas (8.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 2.5 steals), who is supported by Paweł Dzierżak (4.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steal).

When comparing the two teams, Polpharma does measure up to Gdynia, managing to beat them only in the average of points gained per match (81.3 vs 79.3). The biggest flaw of the Kociewian Devils is their small rotation. It is worth of note, however, that the guests will most likely want to open strong in the new year. Please feel invited to the match on the 6th of January, 2020 at 17:00.
