On Thursday, 13th of February 2020, the Suzuki Puchar Polski is to commence. Out of the 8 best Energa Basket Liga team, Legia Warszawa and HydroTruck Radom will be the first to fight, followed up by Start Lublin and Anwil Włocławek. The yellow-and-blues will have their chance on the 14th of February, when they will take on at the Arena Ursynów in Warsaw Polski Cukier Toruń at 20:30.

The "Gingerbreads" are led by coach Sebastian Machowski and have fought against Asseco Arka Gdynia in November of last year at their own court, when the Gdynia team has lost 65:80.

In their last matches, Toruń has defeated MKS Dąbrowa Górnicza 96:85 and HydroTruck Radom 72:71, but lost to Legia Warszawa 85:92. In the same period, Asseco won against GTK Gliwice 82:74 and WKS Śląsk Wrocław 86:73 but lost to Start Lublin 75:81.

Polski Cukier has a strong, even rotation and coach Machowski has no calms about using all the players. The offensive core is composed of three US players - defender Keith Hornsby (16.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.2 steals), playmaker Chris Wright (15.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists) and center Alade Aminu (14.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.0 block). Support to the three is provided by great Polish players: Aaron Cel (10.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.2 steals), Damian Kulig (8.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 block) and Karol Gruszecki (8.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.2 steal). A moment of relief for Wright is provided by the young playmaker Jakub Schenk (7.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists) and experienced forward Kyle Weaver (6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.4 steals), while the defense is handeled by a league veteran, Aleksander Perka (6.4 points, 3.7 rebounds).

The Gingerbreads are a balanced team with hard defense and an average of 6 points more in attack as opposed to Gdynia. Toruń relies on teamwork and their greatest strength is their frontcourt.

It seems that both teams are evenly matched, which will surely give us an interesting match. Will it be so? We will find out this Friday, 14th of February at Warsaw. The match will be available for viewing at 20:30 on Polsat Sport Extra.
