Our first opponent in the year 2021 will be WKS Slask Wroclaw. The match will take place on Sunday, 3rd of January at 15:30.
The opposing team, led by Serbian coach Oliver Vidin, will approach the match in high spirits after defeating Zielona Gora (84:80) and PGE Spojnia Stargard (95:94). The team from lower Silesia occupies the 5th position in the table with a 12:6 balance. In the first match between us and them, it was Slask who proved stronger, defeating the yellow-and-blues 85:74 in September. How has their team composition changed since then?
Not by much, as it turns out. Only two new players have been approved since the beginning of the season - the injured Garret Nevels was replaced by Kyle Gibson (11.1 points, 2.4 assists), whereas in November a Polish playmaker Mateusz Szlachetka (5.1 points, 2.5 assists) was contracted. The Serbian Strahinj Jovanović (15.2 points, 5.3 assists, 1 steal) remains the team captain and is supported by Elijah Stewart (14.4 points, 3.7 rebound, 1 block) and Aleksander Dziewa (14.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.2 blocks). Another player worthy of mention is the Croatian Ivan Ramljak (11.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.8 steals). Just as in the Asseco Arka, the senior players are supported by the youths - the aforementioned Szlachetka, Kacper Gordon and Jan Wojcik. The ace in the hole of coach Vidin has become the center Szymon Tomczak, whose blocks have made it possible to defeat PGE Spojnia.
The team definitely excels in the ofense. 53% in 2 pointers and 48% in the game makes that obvious. At the same time, Wroclaw is the most "blocking" EBL team. Most of their throws from half-distance and the front will be deadly, which with the injury of Mikolaj Witlinski may be hard to stop.
Both teams have a combined score of 26 won championships and 50 Polish championship medals. It was after defeating Wroclaw that the then Prokom Trefl has taken the highest place on the podium for the first time.
Will coach Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz and his team be able to get a break from the long stretch of defeats? Find out on Sunday at 15:30. The match will be available for viewing on Emocje TV. We are Asseco!
