After an away victory in Oldenburg against EWE Baskets, Asseco Arka Gdynia had its first 7DAYS EuroCup match at Gdynia Arena. The oponnet was the hardest team of the D group - Unicaja Malaga. Despite a fierce fight on both sides and a even 4th quarter, the yellow-and-blues did not manage to break the guests and lost 59:66.

The first 10 minutes were confusing for both teams. The guests turned out better in the end, with 12 points against Asseco's 6. Josh Bostic (8 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists) provided some free throws, followed by Adam Hrycaniuk (8 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block) and Devonte Upson (11 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block).

The second quarter saw a drastic change. Asseco tightened its defences and played well. Bostic, Ben Emelogu (4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal) and tall Upson and Leyton Hammonds (6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal) kept scoring. Arka was pursuing the Spaniards, with Phil Greene joining the fight (18 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal). Minute before the break saw Asseco in a 28 point tie, followed up by Greene's two points which set 30:28 for Gdynia.

Unicaja attacked after the break. Arka responded with Greene and Upson, followed up by Bostic, but the Spaniards kept increasing their advantage. After Greene's free throws (1 hit) and the same from Emelogu, the yellow-and-blues ended the third quarter with 44:49 to their name.

The last 10 minutes saw a fierce fight from Asseco. Team captain Krzysztof Szubarga (4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) joined the scoring, with 4 points delivered by Hrycaniuk and Greene scoring from behind the bend. The Malaga guests reacted by slowing down their game, not allowing the hosts to get more than 4 points. Despite their will to fight, Arka was defeated, loosing 59:66 against Unicaja Malaga at Gdynia Arena.

The yellow-and-blues fought well, with a lot of cheering from the crowd. Time for the EBL on Sunday, 13th of October at 17:00, this time against GTK Gliwice. Please feel invited. We are Asseco!
