Asseco Arka Gdynia traveled almost 2000 km in order to face off against the Buducnost team in the 7DAYS EuroCup. It was worth it, as after a fierce fight, the team won 62:59.
From the very first minute it was evident that the hosts will not let up easy and Gdynia will have to struggle for every single point.Budcnost led for most of this duel, and only the ending marked a different victor.
The beginning of the match saw a great struggle for Gdynia. Only Devonte Upson (10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals) and Adam Hrycaniuk (7 points, 7 rebounds) fell into proper groove in the beginning, and they carried the first quarter. It was not enough to change the ultimate score of the first quarter (10:21).
The next quarter saw a similar start as the ending of the previous one. Arka was under pressure, which led to issues in the attack. The situation, minute by minute, started improving however, as Josh Bostic (19 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal), Krzysztof Szubarga (2 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal) and Ben Emelogu (17 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal) began scoring. A minute and a half before the end of the first quarter Gdynia, after some free throws from Leyton Hammonds (4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal), were loosing 35:29, but managed to leave for the break with 32:35.
After resting, both teames focused on the defense, and the match became much harder. Upson was on the attack, three points were added by Emelogu, one from Bartłomiej Wołoszyn (3 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal) after a free throw. In the third quarter, only 25 points were scored, and it was up to the fourth quarter to pick out a victor.
The fourth quarter was a non-stop struggle over every inch of the court. Szubarga felt best in that setting, serving passes to his colleagues which resulted in new points. Bostic and Emelogu were in the lead of those points.
Only 30 seconds before the end Asseco winning only 58:56, but an important rebounds was scored by Szubi, exchanged into points by Bostic, along with 2 free throws. Gdynia defeated on that day Buducnost Podgorica (62:59) in the 7DAYS EuroCup.
