In today's away match of the EBL, Asseco Arka Gdynia went against Śląsk Wrocław which resulted in a really interesting match. Bothy teams did not let up, but it was Przemysław Frasunkiewicz's team which proved victorious in the end, defeating the hosts 85:83.
The yellow-and-blues began the match in their usual style, by attacking the opponent en masse. The king of that period was Josh Bostic (33 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals), supported by team captain Krzysztof Szubarga (5 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists), as well as Adam Hrycaniuk (4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist), the great Devonte Upson (12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block) and the ever active Leyton Hammonds (12 points, 10 rebounds, 1 steal). Wrocław defended well, and despite Asseco's attack, Gdynia won the first quarter only 27:22.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Śląsk buckled up and corrected their offensive approach. Hrycaniuk started adding points on the guests side, but it proved a prelude to a pause in the game for almost 5 minutes. In that time, the hosts managed to regain losses and jumped ahead (31:29. Hammonds broke the spell for Arka, adding 2 and 1 points respectively. That turned Bostic on, who in a couple of seconds garnered 7 points and Asseco was loosing only 38:39. Till the end of the quarter scoring was kept up by Szubarga, Hammonds and Bartłomiej Wołoszyn (8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists), which allowed the yellow-and-blues to leave for the benches with 46:45 to their name.
After the break, the fight became even fiercer. Both sides defended and attacked well. Bostic was keeping up the attack on Gdynia's side, with importants points added by Wołoszyn and Dariusz Wyka (2 points, 2 rebounds). Despite the good play, it was the hosts who won the third quarter (24:20), and were in the overall lead 69:66.
The end quarter saw a great game by Bostic, supported by Upson and the first timer in Arka Armani moore (4 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists). Despite Gdynia taking the lead 5 minutes till the break, the match was far from over. The score was tied for most of the time, up till the last minute. Szubarga-Upson delivered the killing blow. "The Admiral" drawed in the defenders and passed the ball to Upson, who closed the point and lead Asseco Arka Gdynia to win 85:83.
An interesting match with both great defensive and offensive situations. Only the 15 losses of the yellow-and-blues may give reason for concern.
Time for a short break and on the 23rd of October at 19:30, another away match, this time for the 7DAYS EuroCup against Dolomiti Energia Trento.
