It seemed that Asseco Arka Gdynia was getting back on track the Sunday win against Legia Warszawa (81:66). Today, however, Gdynia was taking on Buducnost VOLI Podgorica in a 7DAYS EuroCup match, which resulted in the hosts loosing 78:61.
The guests began by scoring 6 points in 2 minutes. Armani Moore (9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) responded in kind, lowering the losses. The first 10 minutes was very even, during which Leyton Hammonds (11 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal), Dariusz Wyka (8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist) and Krzysztof Szubarga (5 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists) joined the scoring. Despite a slight advantage of the guests, Gdynia kept right behind them and the first quarter ended with a 18:18 tie.
The second quarter saw an aggressive change of pace of Budocnost. The Montenegro players' attacks were well aimed and despite the counterattacks from Moore, Wyka and Bartłomiej Wołoszyn (5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist), the score was getting away from Arka. Asseco players seemed lost, without strength and a will to win. The point loss was very visible on Josh Bostic's side (2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists). The quarter ended with a sizable win on the guest side (23:12) and them taking the lead of the first half (41:30).
The second half began with some reignited hopes. Hammonds and Ben Emelogu (7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist) kept scoring, and Adam Hrycaniuk fought at the baskets (4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal), as did Devonte Upson (8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists). Gdynia kept fighting, but they could not lower their disadvantage. The minutes went by as both rivales exchanged blows. Everything turned in the 24th minute - Montenegro increased their win to 8, then to 14 points and won the last quarter 69:46. It was pretty much over at that point.
The last 10 minutes saw sporadic attacks from Upson, Emelogu and Hammonds, but the yellow-and-blues could not turn the tide. Coach Przemysław Frasunkiewicz threw the towel when he allowed Wojciech Czerlonko (1 rebound, 1 steal) and Grzegorz Kamiński (2 points, 1 steal) to enter the court. Asseco Arka Gdynia lost to Buducnosti VOLI Podgorica 61:78 in the 7DAYS EuroCup at Gdynia Arena.
Arka's crisis continues. On the 23rd of November an away match of the EBL will take place against Enea Astoria Bydgoszcz.
