A very successful Saturday evening has been presented to the Asseco Arka Gdynia fans by its players. The yellow-and-blues won the away match in the EBL against Enea Astoria Bydgoszcz 81:72.
Gdynia has had little success in the European circuit and one could think that the team is overburdened. It was also then that the best thrower of Arka, Josh Bostic (22 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) scored the vital points.
The first quarter was dominated by the hosts. Only after 2 minutes did Gdynia manage to score with the help of Armani Moore (8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block), and after additional two minutes it was still 12:2 for Bydgoszcz. A counter offensive was in order. Leyton Hammonds (8 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block) and Devonte Upson (8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block) attacked, supported by Krzysztof Szubarga (11 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals). The guests managed to regain their losses and won 24:20 that part of the game.
The match evened out in the second quarter, although Gdynia was slightly ahead. Between 12th and 16th minute the yellow-and-blues paused somewhat, which allowed the guests to regain some losses (30:31), but Ben Emelogu (11 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal) scored a three pointer and Arka Was back in game. Adam Hrycaniuk (8 points, 2 rebounds) was handling the backcourt, whilst Szubarga scored his first 3 point throw. Arka was leading 41:38.
After coming back from the break, Gdynia kept up the pressure. Hrycaniuk, Emelogu and Upson kept on scoring. Three points were added by Bartłomiej Wołoszyn (3 points, 5 rebounds). The master of that of the game turned out to be Bostic. The US player began scoring during that quarter and finished it, gathering a total of 17 points. Arka dominated the match and entered the 4th quarter 69:57.
The last 10 minutes saw Gdynia in control. Two minutes before the end Hammonds pushed the yellow-and-blues to 20 points ahead. Nothing could save Bydgoszcz.
