Today's event at Zielona Góra was looking up to be the hit of the current Energa Basket Liga week. However, the opposite turned out to be true. Stelmet Enea BC dominated Asseco Arka Gdynia and won 87:65.
From the very beginning Gdynia was having trouble in catching their rhythm. First points were scored after four minutes by Leyton Hammonds (11 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal), but it was still 9:3 for the hosts. A few points were added by Josh Bostic (15 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists), two points were scored by Adam Hrycaniuk (6 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist), but Stelmet was still in the lead. Krzysztof Szubarga (3 points, 1 rebound) threw a three pointer, followed up by a lay up of Dariusz Wyka (2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal) were something, but the quarter was still lost 17:26.
The next minutes saw an increase of the Zielona Góra advantage. Bostic, Armani Moore (4 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block) tried to counter attack, as did Bartłomiej Wołoszyn (11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist), but these were purely individual actions which could not affect the well organized Stelmet. The break arrived with a 35:51 score for the hosts.
After the break, Devonte Upson (4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals) scored four points in a row, which gave some hope to the Asseco fans. Stelmet, however, quickly got up again and continued their scoring. As was in the first quarter, Wołoszyn and Bostic's two pointers added to the score, but Gdynia was still loosing hard with a 51:71 score.
The last 10 minutes was a formality for Stelmet. The hosts did not attack as hard as at the beginning, but the same was true for Asseco. Hrycaniuk, Ben Emelogu (6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) and Wojciech Czerlonko (3 points) scored some inividual actions, but it was too little, too late. Two minutes before the end, Wołoszyn threw in a three-pointer, but ultimately, Asseco Arka Gdynia lost in Zielona Góra against Stelmet Enea BC 65:87.
19 points of losses and only 24% accuracy in three point throws were the main reasoins behind today's defeat of the yellow-and-blues. A week of break for Asseco will be best handeled on fixing their problems, and on the 8th of December, another away match - this time against HydroTruck Radom.
