Asseco Arka Gdynia have built up some major hopes for another win in the 7DAYS EuroCup. The yellow-and-blues played two good quarters, 23:18 and 26:22, alas, the break has brought a lapse in concentration and they have lost against Dolomiti Energia Trento 78:85.
Gdynia played aggressively from the start and it seemed that they are in control of the match. Josh Bostic opened scoring (17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists), followed up by Krzysztof Szubarga (12 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal) and a 100% accurate Leyton Hammonds (12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block). It was after the latter ones points when the hosts took the lead and did not give it back for 12 minutes.
The first quarter was ended with 5 points in the lead by Arka and it seemed that they are well under way to victory. The next 10 minutes also did not prophesie the upcoming crisis. Armani Moore (12 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal) went on the offensive, Dariusz Wyka (9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block) scored a three pointer. The Italians proved a challenge only for a second, reaching a draw in the 17th minute 37:37, but Szubarga and Moore managed to push the yellow-and-blues all the way to the break with a 9 point advantage - 49:40.
The first symptoms of the crisis of Gdynia appeared in the second half of the third quarter. Up until that moment Arka was in the lead, maintaining a 4, 6 point advantage. Gdynia players did not score a lot, but managed to keep the score up. Everything went down at the 26th minute. From that moment on, Gdynia scored only two points (Bostic), which allowed the guests to reach a 59:59 draw.
The last quarter saw a complete reversal of the roles. Dolomiti was scoring left and right, whereas Arka had a problem with finding their way to the oponnents basket. Bostic and Szubarga were scoring, as did Wyka, but the yellow-and-blue defense as well as offense was in shambles. Gdynia did not manage to regain concentration all the way till the end, loosing at Gdynia Arena against Dolomiti Energia Trento 78:85.
It seems that both teams were fairly equal, but the defense of the guests in the fourth quarter and loss of focus o Asseco in the second half cos them the game.
Now it is time to go back to the home curcuit, as on the 15th of December MKS Dabrowa Gornicza is coming to Gdynia Arena.
