Asseco Arka Gdynia took on WKS Śląsk Wrocław at Gdynia Arena in a Energa Basket Liga match. The guests had a pretty good run until meeting the yellow-and-blues, who won 86:73.
The first scorer was Josh Bostic (21 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists), followed up by Bartłomiej Wołoszyn (19 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) who also noted 75% accuracy in two-point throws and 66% in three-point throws. At the end of the third quarter and the beginning of fourth, Marcin Malczyk had also noted a great streak. In four and a half minute, he has noted 6 points and 4 rebounds. A minute before the end was also a time for the 18 years old Michał Szelągowski, who missed his long range throw.
From the very beginning Arka had the situation under control. Śląsk tried attacking, but Adam Hrycaniuk's throw (4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal), free throw from Leyton Hammonds (8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal) and Wołoszyn and Bostic's three pointer allowed Gdynia to reach a 9:4 lead. At that moment, the yellow-and-blues plateaued. Dariusz Wyka (3 points, 2 rebounds) overcame it, but the guests did not stop their offensive and reached the hosts up till a single point of difference (13:14). Wołoszyn and Bostic entered the fray, managing with their throws a small advantage 21:18, which Phil Greene IV (11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) confirmed shortly after along with Krzysztof Szubarga (10 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists). Arka began gaining momentum, which resulted with a first quarter being theirs 27:20.
In the second quarter, the yellow-and-blues's advantage was increasing. Hammonds showed a wonderful three point throw and along with Greene became the most active parties of that quarter. Hammonds also cooperated in the defense with Hrycaniuk and Devonte Upson (4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal), making it hard for Śląsk's offensive. The first half was finished with throws from Bostic, Wołoszyn and Szubarga, a two-pointer, three-pointer and two times a single point respectively, making it 49:35 for Asseco.
After coming back from the break, the guests gained some momentum. Śląsk attacked and in the 23rd minute lowered their disadvantage to 8 points. Wołoszyn managed an important three-pointer, followed up by Bostic and Wołko which crushed the away team. Arka was increasing their distance, with Wołoszyn, Bostic, Szubarga and Greene scoring, finished up by Malczak's final point before the end of the quarter, which set Arka 72:51.
The last 10 minutes saw the yellow-and-blues change 26 points of advantage into 33 points. The bench team got some play, along with the young Szelągowski. In the end, Asseco Arka Gdynia lost this part of the game 14:22, but won overall 86:73 against WKS Śląsk Wrocław.
