This afternoon Gdynia Arena saw the fifth and fourth best teams of the Energa Basket Liga clash - Asseco Arka Gdynia vs Start Lublin. None of the yellow-and-blue fans expected that it will be the guests who come up triumphant with a 81:75 score.

A great match was played by Asseco team captain, Krzysztof Szubarga (24 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals), but his accomplishments, along with those delivered by Bartłomiej Wołoszyn (10 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals) and Josh Bostic (20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) were not enough to turn the tide.

The first points for Arka were delivered by Leyton Hammonds (6 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal), which were quickly followed up by Szubarga. Gdynia was in a 11:8 lead and after Wołoszyns throw - 14:10, but that as far as they could go. In the last minutes of the quarter, Phil Greene IV (6 points, 1 rebound, 2 assist) scored a 3 point, and Arka was in the lead 21:16 at the end of the first quarter.

From the beginning of the second quarter, Start was fighting to take back their points. The guests attacked with quite the accuracy and made approach to their own basket impenetrable, which saw Arka score their first points as far as in the 5th minute of the game. Bostic's 3 point unblocked Gdynia somewhat, but the hosts were already loosing 24:32. At the back half, Szubarga and Bostic were still scoring points, but Asseco left for the break with 38:42.

A short break was more advantageous for the guests, as they were continously increasing their advantage. Gdynia seemed out of its element, despite Greene's, Szubarga's and Adam Hrycaniuk's (5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) attempts. After the 30 minute mark, Arka was loosing against Start by 11 points (50:61).

The last quarter saw Asseco pursue the oponnents. Szubarga, Bostic and Wołoszyn attacked, some points were added by Hammonds and Dariusz Wyka (2 points, 4 rebounds), but Start was cautious and did not allow Gdynia to catch wind in their sales. The guests closed off their part of the court while not allowing a moment of respite to the enemie's basket. At the end, Bostic scored a 3 point, but it was too little too late and Asseco Arka Gdynia lost at Gdynia Arena agaiin st Start Lublin 75:81.

An interesting match where the 2 points played a crucial role - Arka 34%, Start 66%, as did the reserve points (10 to 26 and using the oponnents losses, 8 to 16). Next up, 14th of February and the finale of the Suzuki Polish Cup, as well as the Polski Cukier Toruń awaiting us at Warsaw.
