Due to the health issues plaguing Asseco Arka Gdynia, today's match was the second for them in the Energa Basket Liga. The yellow-and-blues took on Pszczolka Start Lublin at Gdynia Arena, and after a decent first half and 43:39 to their name, the win was near certain. However, the last 10 minutes were fatal - Lublin tightened its defense, collected 11 points (22:11) and won 79:68.
Since minute one David Dedka's team was going in hard. Some hits by the yellow-and-blues were delivered by Bartłomiej Woloszyn (5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals), Przemyslaw Zolnierewicz (5 points) and Krzysztof Szubarga (15 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals), but that was not enough. After 5 minutes, Arka was loosing 9:18, and moments later: 12:22. The last two three pointers by Filip Dylewicz (16 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal) was not enough and the hosts lost 18:22.
The second quarter gave some hope. Dylewicz went in, supported by Szubarga, Woloszyn and Wojciech Czerlonko (5 points, 5 rebounds), who managed to put Asseco ahead in the 12th minute. Arka kept to their advantage and added some more points by the end, which allowed them to take the lead (43:39).
After the break, the yellow-and-blues seemed out of touch. Some points were delivered by Szubarga and Adam Hrycaniuk (8 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist), but the guests were gaining advantage minute by minute. After 4 minutes, Start closed the gap and came in ahead (48:47). The score was a near-draw for the most part, with Marcin Kowalczyk (3 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists) putting a three pointer right before the end. Gdynia was loosing minimally 55:57, but a well placed throw by Mikolaj Witlinski (11 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block) set it at 57:57.
The last quarter was a great defensive showcase of Start. Gdynia, on the other head, appeared weakened. Zolnierewicz was out after 5 fouls in the 3rd quarter, and there was no one to threaten the aggressive offensive by the guests. Szubarga was beat, working pretty much non-stop. Without a playmaker and with limited options, Asseco was getting left behind. Witlinski and Dylewicz were doing the best they could, but it was just not enough. In the last two minutes, the hosts added only 3 points to their score and lost at their own court 68:79 against Pszczolka Start Lublin.
A good game by Dylewicz and Szubarga, 25 losses and a worse day for all other. Let's hope the yellow-and-blues will pick themselves up, as Sunday, 20th of September, will see an away match against Trefl Sopot.
