Coach Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz and his team lost at their own court in the Tricity derby against Trefl Sopot 71:100. The next match will be played in the new year of 2021.

We could not have dreamed for a better last match of the year. In the 19th round of the EBL, Gdynia Arena saw the arrival of our local rival - Trefl Sopot. Despite the general perception that coach Marcin Stefanski and his team generally have the upper hand, Gdynia was not backing down from a fight. Captain Krzysztof Szubarga and Igor Wadowski even returned, the pillars of our team.

Despite the audience being none present, both teams started out aggressively. The away team was slightly better in the first part, utilizing their physical advantages in the "painted zone". Martynas Paliukenas and Michal Kolenda effectively blocked Szubarga's plays. The first quarter ended with the guests winning by 8 points (15:23).

Sopot continued playing hard. Thanks to the rapid counterattacks and three pointers delivered by Darious Motena and Karol Gruszecki, the advantage deepened and evan our stellar defence could not stop them. "Szubi" and Adam Hrycaniuk did their best to give the enemy pause, but halfway through the match, the score was 29:51. Changes had to be made, which was why the motivational speech for our team lasted 14 minutes.

Unfortunately, it was Trefl who continued to dominate. Captain Szubarga and the 40-year old Filip Dylewicz could not stop the enemy's advance. At the end of the third quarter, the reserves walked out onto the court. The last 10 minutes saw a drowsy performance, with the youth having a go at the ball: Marcin Kowalczyk, Mateusz Kaszowski, Michal Pluta and the debuting 17-years old Lukasz Walkowiak, who managed to gain his first points among the elites. Asseco Arka Gdynia lost to Trefl Sopot 71:100. We congratulate the black-and-yellows their triumph.

Next match will take place on Sunday, 3rd of January 2021. It will be time to face off against WKS Slask Wroclaw (15:30). We wish all our fans all the best in the upcoming year of 2021. We hope to see you back at Gdynia Arena!
